Change of Numbering Ranges from 6 to 7 digits

In accordance with the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) regulation, Zain Uganda would like to inform its esteemed customers and the general public that starting Wednesday 1st February 2006, all current and future customer numbering ranges will change from the current 6 to 7 digits excluding the Zain code - 075. (Please note that this development applies to all the 3 Mobile Service providers in the country).

All current customers will have to add a 2 first and then their current 6 digits to form their new number. For example;

Zain Old/Current number: 075 123456
Zain New number: 075 2 123456

All those making calls to Zain will have to effect these changes i.e. add a 2 when calling current numbers and find out the actual 7 digit number of any new correspondent that you would like to call. This also applies to customers making calls from abroad.

A 3 month grace period starting on 1st February 2006, will be given to customers to adjust to the above changes. This means that customers can still call and connect to old numbers even without the 2 (which is the 7th digit). During this time, customers will receive a voice message about this change before the call is connected.

The message is as follows;
While making a National Call
“Your call is being connected. Please note that numbering plan has changed. You will be required to dial 075 2 then the number of the person your calling”
While making an International Call
“Your call is being connected. Please note that numbering plan has changed. You will be required to dial 256 75 2 then the number of the person your calling”.
